Over 100 people gathered in May, at the East 16th Street Subdivision, now known as Habitat Greens, to raise walls on three new homes. The celebration included speeches from Jane Dolan, Butte County Supervisor, and Chico Mayor Ann Schwab.
This is the first time that Habitat for Humanity of Butte County has started three homes at one time marking the significant growth in the organization. Through the partnerships with the City of Chico, Federal Home Loan Bank, Golden Valley Bank, PG&E, Lowe's and other generous donors and volunteers, Habitat plans to build out the Habitat Greens subdivision of 8 homes within the next two years.

Thanks to Golden Valley Bank, Habitat was able to apply for a large grant from the Federal Home Loan Bank. The award of $210,000 in AHP grant funding greatly exceeded our expectations, and is a significant contribution toward affordable housing in Butte County. It has even greater value when viewed in the context of the Habitat for Humanity of Butte County mission and the use of proceeds.
PG&E has stepped forward to fund the full cost of solar electric systems in every home built by Habitat for Humanityof Butte County, saving each homeowner an approximately $500 a year in energy costs. To date, PG&E has contributed over $60,000 to HFHBC.

This is the first LEED for Homes project in Butte County! LEED for Homes is a rating system that promotes the design and construction of high-performance green homes. A green home uses less energy, water and natural resources, creates less waste, and is healthier and more comfortable for occupants. Benefits of a LEED home include lower energy and water bills; reduced greenhouse gas emissions; and less exposure to mold, mildew and other indoor toxins.
