About
What is Habitat for Humanity?
Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with God and people everywhere, from all walks of life, to develop communities with people in need by building and renovating houses so that there are decent houses in decent communities in an effort to eliminate poverty housing.
How does it work?
Through volunteer labor and tax-deductible donations of money and materials, Habitat builds and renovates simple, decent houses with partner families in need of shelter. Habitat houses are sold to the families at no profit, financed with affordable loans. The homeowners' monthly mortgage payments go into a revolving Fund for Humanity that is used to build more houses. Homeowners are chosen on the basis of need, willingness to partner, and ability to repay the loan.
What is going on in Butte County?
Habitat for Humanity of Butte County was established in 1993. While we use the Habitat for Humanity name, our local affiliate must succeed or fail on its own; independent of the international organization. The local community has shown its support over the years and we have placed 16 low-income families in homes. We look forward to some exciting projects in the future and helping the community as we grow.
