Habitat partners with low-income families. Once approved, they buy the house and Habitat carries the mortgage. In addition, each family must contribute sweat equity in place of a large down payment.
Is building a Habitat home like a big, fun barn-raising event?
Building a home is what you make it out to be. But not all the work is glamorous. It requires dedication and lots of sweat. There are a lot of ways to help the organization other than on the construction site!
Why should I volunteer?
By volunteering with Habitat you are helping to improve your community and maybe the area you live in. It is more than construction - it is people coming together to help low-income families in need. In addition, you can help knowing that your efforts are making a difference in the lives of a needy family.
