Housing Opportunities

Habitat for Humanity provides low-income families with a low cost home and a zero interest loan, giving them a hand-up, not a handout.

Families are selected on 3 criteria:

  • Need - Present housing situation is overcrowded meaning there may be more than 2 children per bedroom, adults sharing rooms with children, or children of different sex sharing a room.  Current housing might be substandard meaning there are problems with maintenance and repairs. Low-income families are those who make less than 60% of the Area Median Income.  To view income requirements, click here.

  • Ability to Pay - Applicants should have a history of timely payments and a stable work history.

  • Willingness to Partner - Applicants must be willing to complete 200 hours of sweat equity per adult and accept homeowner education requirements.

Habitat selects a family per project prior to starting construction.  We will be starting 3 houses at our 16th Street Subdivision in early 2010.  In November, we completed a round of applications for two houses  and we anticipate another round of family selection in January or February for the third house.

At that time we will hold a mandatory orientation for all applicants.  This will provide an opportunity to explain the family selection process in more detail and help answer any questions you may have.
