Paradise, CA

Habitat for Humanity of Butte County is continuing our momentum with new construction growth moving up to Paradise. We have purchased 15 lots in Paradise.  Our current project is 3 homes on Garden View Lane.

Each home on Garden View Lane will be 2-bedroom, 2 bathroom homes. The 3 families selected for these lots all have deep roots in Paradise and are Camp Fire survivor families. Two of the families are single moms with eleven-year-old boys and the other family is an adult son and his mom, who is deaf, and he is her caretaker. These families are looking forward to going back to their hometown where they will live, shop and go to school as well as being a part of rebuilding their town.

Our funding partners include: Paradise Rotary Foundation, Golden Valley Bank, National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Town of Paradise, State Farm Insurance, Duckhorn Wine Company, Thrivent Financial Personal Donation Fund of inFaith Community Foundation, Lowell Foundation, Bank of America Foundation, Dodge & Cox, Tri-Counties, Omega Nu of Chico, International Soroptimist of Chico, GoFundMe, Mechanics Bank, Durham Rotary, Mar-Val Emporium Inc., North Valley Community Foundation and Butte Strong Fund.

Habitat is using innovative and fire-resistant materials for our Habitat Rebuilds in Paradise Project. Our partners are working with us to build with insulated concrete forms (ICFs) which maximize fire protection. In addition, we will use other fire resistance materials to strengthen our homes and create defensible space. Our partners include National Ready Mix Concrete Association (NRMCA), A&A Concrete, Matthew’s Concrete, Boral’s Roofing, Uponor plumbing, Fox block, Helix, MOHAWK, CalFlor, and Rebuild Paradise Foundation.

New Construction

Meet the newest future habitat homeowners

These families will start building their homes in the early part of 2022 in Paradise, CA.

Jessica and her three children moved into an apartment in Paradise in 2015. Since losing everything in the 2018 Paradise Camp Fire, they have been from hotel to hotel until they were able to move into a small trailer in Magalia which is poorly heated and overcrowded. Jessica and her kids are excited about their new forever home where they will have plenty of room for everyone.

Robert & Esmeralda and their two boys survived the Camp Fire and now share a trailer on their friend’s property in Biggs. The family enjoyed being part of the strong community of Paradise and look forward to returning. Robert and Esmeralda have faced many challenges and are working hard to keep their family together as they focus on their new Habitat home.

Jennifer and her children are survivors of the Camp Fire. Life has not been easy for Jennifer, but through it all, she has continued to make sure that her children have the best life possible. Currently, they are living in a small trailer in Paradise on property owned by Jennifer’s mother. We are so happy for Jennifer and her children who will become homeowners in the community they love.

Roberta is a 65-year-old grandmother who has been raising her four-year-old twin granddaughters since they were a year old. Roberta was happily retired and living in Oregon when she realized that her son was not able to care for his daughters. Roberta, or Birdie as her friends call her, returned to Paradise to raise her granddaughters near friends and family and is in the process of adopting them. The community of Paradise is where Birdie has always felt accepted and supported. She is looking forward to providing her granddaughters stability through homeownership.

Robert & Araceli and their 4-year-old daughter moved to Chico from Los Angeles in 2020 to get out of the city and find work. Robert currently works for a local concrete and construction company that travels all over Butte County including Paradise. They are looking forward to putting down roots in Paradise and becoming members of the community.
