30 Year Anniversary

It’s been 30 years of bringing people together to build homes, communities, and hope.

Much to celebrate. More to build. Join us.

Established in Chico, California in 1993

Established in 1993, Habitat for Humanity of Butte County is an independent 501(c)3 non-profit and one of more than 1500 local Habitat for Humanity affiliates in the United States that work with local volunteers to build safe affordable homes with hardworking eligible families. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers, work 250 sweat equity hours, and pay a low-interest affordable mortgage. HFHBC has provided a path to homeownership for over 48 families, 13 since the Camp Fire, and revitalized many Butte County neighborhoods, creating safe and vibrant communities where families can prosper, and children can thrive. The affiliate also has a ReStore located at 220 Meyers St., Chico, open Tues.-Sat. Everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability
and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves.

HISTORY OF HABITAT OF BUTTE COUNTY

Building Homes

This past year in Paradise, we completed seven homes. Five of the families were impacted by the 2018 Camp Fire.  We have much to celebrate, but still more to build! Our goal for 2023 is to complete 8 houses.

Why does homeownership matter? Studies show that homeowners have an average net wealth that is 400% higher than that of renters with similar demographics and earnings, and home equity represents the largest proportion of wealth (34.5%) for U.S. households.

Building Community

Regardless of the length of time they have owned a home, homeowners are more likely to become involved in a neighborhood group, join a civic association, and more likely to vote in local elections.

Building Hope

Growing up in a decent, affordable home can have a powerful effect on children. Studies draw a straight line between the quality, location, and affordability of housing and a child’s ability to thrive. A decent, affordable home can have a significant impact on a family’s health. Affordability raises a family’s standard of living and relieves the psychological pressure of being forced to make tough trade-offs just to make it through the month.
