Donate your lot to habitat
Give the gift of real estate and eliminate the headache of mowing and clearing your vacant lot, and the expense of paying taxes and insurance. We can put the lot to use to support affordable housing in our community.
We encourage donations of the below types of real estate:

Habitat handles all required paperwork and pays all transfer fees, recording fees, and appraisal costs. As always, donating real estate may be tax deductible and we recommend you check with your tax advisor for further details.

THere are no utilities in the vicinity of the lot. Will you accept the donation?
Yes, though each property needs to be evaluated on an individual basis.
How long does the process to donate property take?
If all papers are in order, and the title is clear of any issues, the process typically takes between 3-6 weeks.
Will I be charged any fees?
Habitat handles all required paperwork and pays all transfer fees, recording fees, and appraisal costs.
Do I need an appraisal to receive my tax deduction?
In order to receive your tax deduction, you’ll need a current appraisal on the property. According to IRS regulations, tax deduction is based on a current property appraisal. If you already have a current appraisal, you do not need to get another one.
What tax benefits will I receive by donating my lot to habitat for humanity?
As a general rule, you can claim the FULL appraised value of the donated property. Consult your tax advisor for details.
Can I donate part of the property value and receive cash for the other part?
We can purchase your lot at an agreed-upon below market price and you may receive a donation for the difference between the purchase price and fair market value. Consult your tax advisor for details.
How does Habitat for Humanity of Butte County determine the approval of a lot donation?
At Habitat for Humanity of Butte County, our team of specialists reviews each land donation offer we receive, to ensure that Habitat can benefit from the donation. We analyze a variety of different factors to maximize the potential of every property donation.
Do I need to be present at closing?
No, you do not need to be present for closing. We use DocuSign for most of the paperwork and then if needed Habitat hires a mobile rotary for final signatures.
What does Habitat for humanity of butte county do with the donated land?
Habitat for Humanity of Butte County assesses each property and based on the condition, location, and other factors, may hold it to build on, or resell to generate proceeds to help us build additional homes for Habitat.
